I’ve worked in situations where I have had to wipe a client’s computer clean and assure them as such so they can safely pass that information to the agency that requires them to adhere to strict data removal protocols. Some state agencies provide me with their own proprietary software to do such work. Others rely on my good faith that I will erase the data in a way that someone else can not easily retrieve it by rummaging through the trash bin and running a fancy undelete program. As a home user or small business owner, your need for such drastic security measures are probably not needed but wouldn’t you sleep better at night knowing your sensitive information is not in the wrong hands? This is where Darik comes in.
You can download it here:

for cd and dvd media
Download this:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dban/dban-1.0.7_i386.exe?download
for floppy or usb flash verion
Current stable version is: 1.0.7
The full download page is at:

Installation is very easy. If you choose the ISO and bootable option, just boot off the Optical drive with the software and follow the instruction to clean wipe the drive that is currently in there.
If you pick the floppy or usb flash drive route, make sure the drive you want to wipe is not the one being booted. Doing such would be like pulling the rug from underneath yourself.

EraserDisk is operating system independent and comes on a bootable CD. For older systems that don’t have a bootable CD-ROM drive, you can make a bootable floppy disk from the EraserDisk CD.
I’ve used EraserDisk before as well…no need for even a computer…will work with simply an external drive enclosure.
