Syncplicity mac client no longer supported

July 23rd, 2009

syncplicity_logo_colorI checked my inbox and found this email. I had tried syncplicity before as a beta tester and while it has its’ good points, the bad ones made me remove the application from my computer.

Our engineering team has recently completed a ground-up analysis of the Mac beta client and the investigation found some issues which require some major changes in the client. Because of this, we’ve decided to pull back the Mac client beta until which point the engineering team has time to make some major changes. We intend to reassess our engineering schedule early next year.

Unfortunately, this does mean that as of July 31st, you will no longer be able to use Syncplicity with a Mac computer.

Bugs in Firefox 3.5 mac os x 10.5.7

July 15th, 2009

firefoxI installed Firefox 3.5 last week and everything has worked great so far. All of my plugins have been updated. My favorite theme for Firefox on the mac is GrApple; looks better than ever. The only issues I have thus far are:

1. While the javascript does seem faster, some scripts are actually slower and the browser has crashed to desktop much more often than 3.0.1.x. One example is use Firefox 3.5 for mac and go to feedjit. It will make the rest of your tabs and windows crawl to a halt.
2. If you go and print a website and choose to have it print to pdf instead, it will crash to desktop.
3. Some of the color profiles seems to be wrong. Some websites that looked fine before 3.5 now look horribly disfigured. I’m sure the site owners will adjust accordingly.

While I have pointed out a few negatives, there are many things that Firefox 3.5 does right. I love the new tab management and closed window restore. I haven’t used private browsing much but I’m sure it’ll come in handy at a client’s computer when I want to check email without cluttering their computer with my forms.

I hope my bugs are just my own and are not effecting everyone else but if they do, I would like to hear your own experiences. Thanks.

Desktop wallpaper rotator for Windows XP, Vista

June 29th, 2009

wallpapaI am a person who uses two operating systems every day. My desktop is a Mac and my laptop is PC. Unlike your typical fanboys I appreciate both and am not partial to either one. I see them as tools to get a job done. There are things on each OS that I wish the other one had. One such item is a desktop background rotators for Windows. OSX has one built in while only Windows 7 will start having one. For everyone using Vista or below, one solution is WallPapa. While there are many to choose from, you should only use one that takes little system resources and easy to configure.

Get Google Chrome for Mac

June 4th, 2009

googleThe browser space is getting really crowded. On the Mac your default browser is Safari, but you have many choices to pick. Now you can add Google Chrome to that mix. it’s available here http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/sub-rel-mac/. Warning! It is still under development so you should be aware it may not be stable. If you have to try the lastest and greatest, this is definately worth a try. Early reviews in the windows world says that it is very fast due to an optimzed javascript engine.
