The Kindle DX 9.7 inch version

k70The Amazon Kindle is a great device for anyone from avid readers to tech early adopters. As with many things in this industry, the first model isn’t the best representation of what the vendor is trying to sell. The kindle 1 was oddly shaped and had many shortcomings. What it did right was provide an easy way for consumers to find what they want to read and read it in the shortest amount of time. It also provided Amazon with the easiest and fastest way into a consumer’s wallet.

The Kindle 2 was more of an evolutionary product. It kept features like subscription less 3g network, one click book purchases, and small form factor.

What I am excited about is the upcoming DX model. This one has a much bigger screen and addresses a few gripes about the kindle 2.

Here is what will set it apart from the rest.

1. it has auto rotating screen depending on how you hold it.
2. built in native pdf, no more converting to kindle format
3. keeps the free 3g wireless network
4. longer battery life
5. auto delivers major newspapers wirelessly (older model may already have this)
6. more memory, holds up to 3500 books

You may be seeing me at the beach with one of these in my hands….many feet alway from the salt water shore…with kindle in a plastic bag just in case…away from gadget killing sand…near a good spot for 3g coverage…never mind, I’ll just leave it in the hotel room near the beach and take a two buck newspaper.
